On The Road Again

Behind the wheel of a motor-home being relocated from Apollo's Brisbane depot to Alice Springs, for it's next tourist rental, I find myself back on the road once again. The feeling of freedom swirls around me in the breeze through the open window, as I watch the mountains of the Scenic Rim Border Ranges that divide the modern day states of New South Wales and Queensland, appear on my left and pass into the distance.

Five days to deliver this vehicle, isn't quite the freedom my spirit calls out for, but it's more than it has had these past, ten plus, long years, living the life of an almost hermit, thanks to my enduring chronic fatigue.

It is giving me the opportunity to once again, journey as a nomadic artist, back to the Alice Springs Beanie Festival, with all my art materials, textile creations and enough warm camping gear, for me and my friend Nelly Patterson to camp out in the cold Central Australian winter nights. Nelly and I first met on the stage at Beaniefest 2005-6-&-7 whilst taking part in the Beaniefest Olympics - The Fastest Beanie Maker in the Land competitions. Nelly has not been back since 2007, as later in that year while attending another festival in Alice, she was rushed down to Adelaide Hospital, nearly dying for the first time. In my dreams of buying a travelling vehicle recently, I have promised Nelly, if and when I get one, I'll come and pick her up and we'll both return to Beaniefest.
